Building Pathways for Women in Construction
Haselden’s Commitment to Inclusion, Growth, and Support
At Haselden Construction, we’re proud to celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting the incredible women who help build our success—and the initiatives that support their growth. This month holds even more meaning as we were recently honored with the KAWLG Workforce Champions for Women award, a recognition of our ongoing efforts to foster a workplace where women thrive.
This recognition reflects years of intentional work across multiple areas—from career development and inclusive policies to leadership support and community-building. At Haselden, supporting women in construction isn’t just a goal—it’s embedded in our culture.
Laying the Foundation: Career Development That Empowers
One of the ways we’re creating clearer paths for success is through our Career Ladders—frameworks developed over the past two years to bring transparency and structure to professional growth. These documents lay out the specific skills and competencies needed for advancement across roles.
For our female team members, these tools have been especially empowering. Career Ladders have opened the door for more conversations around advancement, helped eliminate ambiguity, and established an equitable baseline for growth. But we don’t stop at outlining the path—we also invest in the resources to help our team members achieve their goals through targeted training and development opportunities.
Supporting the Whole Person: Work-Life Integration
Haselden’s commitment to supporting women extends far beyond career progression. Even before the implementation of Colorado’s FAMLI (Family and Medical Leave Insurance) program, Haselden offered generous leave benefits for both salaried and craft team members.
Since FAMLI’s rollout, Haselden has taken steps to further support work-life integration. One of the most impactful is our flexible schedule option, which allows team members to adjust their hours based on personal and family needs. Whether it’s dropping off children at school or caring for a loved one, our team members know they can prioritize their families without sacrificing career opportunities.
This flexibility has fostered a culture where people feel seen, respected, and supported—regardless of whether they’re parents or caregivers. Additionally, Haselden fully covers short-term disability insurance for all employees, offering peace of mind and financial security during critical times.
Creating Community: The Power of Lean In
Perhaps the most visible example of Haselden’s commitment to women’s professional growth is our Lean In group. Launched in 2019, Lean In was designed to support women at Haselden by providing a space for mentorship, leadership opportunities, connection, and industry outreach.
The structure of the group itself creates leadership openings, from serving on planning committees to organizing events. Through these roles, many women have grown in confidence and capability, contributing to both their personal development and the strength of the group overall.
Each fall, the Lean In group hosts an offsite retreat in Breckenridge, fully sponsored by the company and held during the work week. The retreat focuses on career development and building stronger connections, and feedback from attendees speaks volumes. From inspiring speakers to breakout sessions and peer-to-peer networking, the retreat is a tangible demonstration of Haselden’s investment in our people.
Listening and Leading: Support from the Top
One of the most impactful events Lean In hosted was a Coffee Chat with our CEO, Byron Haselden. The format allowed women to anonymously submit questions or highlight pain points, which Byron addressed in an open and supportive forum.
Having that level of access to leadership sends a powerful message: women matter at Haselden. Our leadership isn’t just talking about inclusion; they’re actively engaging with it.
Building a Stronger Future
As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re reminded that meaningful progress doesn’t happen overnight. It takes thoughtful policies, committed leadership, and a community that uplifts one another.
At Haselden Construction, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken—and even more excited for the road ahead. By investing in women today, we’re helping build a stronger, more inclusive industry for tomorrow.
