Arapahoe Community College made extensive upgrades to the MEP systems at their main campus. Work included replacing an indoor cooling tower, boilers, domestic hot water heaters, and all associated pumps and piping. Three roof top air handling units were replaced along with the hot and chilled water coils on four built in air handling units. The existing pneumatic controls on all systems were removed and replaced with a full DDC upgrade and a fire sprinkler system was retrofitted into the facility. Some of the challenges the team had to work through were opening holes in the roof and side of the penthouse, 4 stories high, to remove existing and set new equipment. Additionally, the work was done in several phases that were planned around the school’s schedule and seasonal weather which allowed the project to minimize impacts to the occupied facility.
