Located in the heart of Aspen, the Aspen Valley Hospital Phase 4 project enhances the hospital’s longstanding commitment to providing exceptional care to the surrounding mountain community. Originally built in 1977, this renovation and expansion introduces a new main entry experience designed to improve patient flow, elevate comfort, and create a welcoming environment for visitors and staff alike.

The project includes a 10,720-square-foot renovation and expansion, adding approximately 5,600 square feet to the existing facility. The new entry sequence features a spacious lobby, administration and check-in offices, and flexible shell space to support the hospital’s continued growth. Extending the building’s architectural language, the exterior follows a sweeping radius toward the east and incorporates materials consistent with the West Entry, including metal panels, stone-clad pilasters, and expansive ribbon windows that bring natural light into the building at multiple levels.

Inside, the design emphasizes warmth, transparency, and connection to the surrounding landscape. A Teknion glass wall system defines the check-in offices while maintaining openness throughout the lobby. A wood-clad donor wall serves as a prominent focal point, celebrating the community support that sustains the hospital. Engineered wood flooring runs throughout the space, complemented by carpet inlays that create comfortable waiting areas where patients and visitors can relax while enjoying southern views and the warmth of Aspen’s winter sunlight. A dramatic floor-to-ceiling curtain wall adjacent to the entry vestibule frames sweeping views of the Aspen Valley, reinforcing a strong connection between the interior environment and the natural setting beyond.

In addition to the lobby expansion, the project includes a 900-square-foot remodel to accommodate a new Nuclear Medicine CT system from GE. This specialized suite required significant infrastructure upgrades, including new under-slab electrical feeders, lead-lined walls and glazing, and updated casework within the control room. The exam room is highlighted by a backlit, Italian-made NewMat stretch ceiling inspired by Aspen’s natural surroundings, creating a calming environment for patients undergoing imaging procedures. Additional mechanical improvements, including new humidifiers and under-slab condensate plumbing, ensure the space meets the performance demands of advanced medical technology.
