The West Tower Expansion and Renovation at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming included 22,000 SF of renovation work to the existing MRI and pharmacy, as well as the tower expansion.

The most challenging aspect of this project was the demolition of the existing MRI and the staging of a temporary MRI while the hospital remained fully functional and unaffected by construction.

The four-story west patient tower expansion added a total of 38 beds, and houses the obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics and spine departments. Each floor is approximately 22,000 SF, resulting in the addition of 98,000 SF to the Wyoming Medical Center. The ground floor consists mainly of the new kitchen and servery area. The second floor comprises the admitting and administration offices, the third floor contains the obstetrics unit with a full nursery and C-section room, and the pediatrics department and the orthopedic and spine departments are located on the fourth floor.

The entire structure is built as a concrete foundation on drilled piers with a structural steel frame and a masonry veneer exterior finish.

The site for the new tower required complete demolition of the existing 55,000 SF building – almost two acres of land. The expansion, renovation, and demolition were all completed on the active medical campus while the hospital remained operational.
